Window cleaning starts with the screens, pulling them off and washing them separately since a clean pane behind a dirty screen still looks dirty. Tracks and sills get vacuumed or brushed out next, because any grit sitting there gets dragged straight across the glass the moment a wet squeegee runs over it. Only then does the actual glass get washed, with a squeegee and scrubber rather than a spray and wipe approach, which tends to leave swirl marks once the cleaner flash dries in Texas sun.

For upper story windows, a pole system with purified water is often used instead of a ladder, which also cuts down on water spotting since purified water dries clear.

Skipping the prep steps is where most bad window jobs go wrong, streaks that are really just dirt from the tracks smeared across clean glass. Hard water spots from sprinkler overspray are a separate problem entirely. Left alone through a Texas summer, the sun bakes those mineral deposits onto the glass, and once etched in they cannot be cleaned away like ordinary dirt, only prevented by catching them early.

How it runs

  1. Remove and clean screens Screens are taken off and washed separately from the glass.
  2. Clean tracks and sills Dirt and grit are cleared out first so it does not streak onto the glass during washing.
  3. Wash the glass Squeegee and scrubber tools are used for a streak free finish, with a pole system for upper story windows.
  4. Final check Glass and frames are checked in daylight for missed streaks or spots before wrapping up.
